Hang on to your toques kids, Youngblood, The Courtneys and Louise Burns are among the 90-plus acts descending on dozens of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»venues for the two-day CanCon extravaganza known as JUNOfest.
Slated for March 22 to March 25, the gigs will be spread across a number of the city’s smaller and mid-size venues, including the Biltmore, Cobalt, Fortune Sound Club, the Imperial, Railway Club and the Rickshaw and the Vogue theatres.
Outside of mainstream names, the festival also extends into the worlds of gospel, classical, jazz and blues.
The JUNOfest Classical show includes performances by pianist Jan Lisiecki, opera stars Isabel Bayrakdarian and Philippe Sly, cellist Johannes Moser, and celebrated Canadian composers Jocelyn Morlock and Alice Ping Lee Ho.
Bob Rock, Lights and Jann Arden, among others, get the sit-down/interview treatment through CBC Music Presents q LIVE at the JUNOS on March 22 at the Vogue Theatre.
JUNOfest Christian gets otherworldy with performances from Juno nominees Jon Neufeld, and The Color, as well as Vancouverite Warren Dean Flandez.
Jazz and blues get their due at Frankie’s on March 23, with a gig that includes tribute performances to the late Tommy Cairns from William Carn, Ernesto Cervini, Tara Davidson, Mike Downes, Phil Dwyer, Christine Jensen and Ingrid Jensen
Priority access wristbands for JUNOfest go for $30 — plus taxes and service fees — and are on sale now via . Individual show tickets will be sold in advance and at the door of each venue via , with costs ranging between $15 and $30.
