Janet Gigliotti is happy to be returning to Theatre Under the Stars.
It’s a “wonderful experience†to perform in Stanley Park in the summertime, she says.
“It’s a tradition for people to go there and it’s really lovely to be a part of that,†say Gigliotti, who grew up in Ladner.
She adds with a laugh that actors get to compete with raccoons, fireworks and beautiful sunsets.
A former school teacher, Gigliotti plays Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street, a “Golden Age Broadway sensation jam-packed with glitz and glam.†That play, along with Cinderella, run on alternating nights from July 4 to Aug. 18 at the Malkin Bowl in Vancouver’s Stanley Park.
Gigliotti says her character could be described as a bit of a diva who’s coming back to theatre at the height of the Great Depression with something to prove.
“It’s her moment to come back as a star again, make her mark again, and prove herself,†she says.
The play is an adaptation of a cult classic 1933 film.
Gigliotti says the whole artistic team and ensemble of performers is “just a really stellar group.â€
Her previous credits at Theatre Under the Stars include South Pacific and Bye Bye Birdie.
