The 21st annual Pacific International Cup was loaded with international entries.

The 21st annual Pacific International Cup is the latest to join the sports cancellation list in Richmond amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The international curling event, hosted by the Richmond Curling Centre, was slated for April 15-19. It was to feature teams from Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Colorado, Alaska, Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Idaho, Yukon Territory and BC.

鈥淎fter careful consultation with local and provincial health authorities and the curling governing bodies, we have determined it is in the best interest of all to cancel the 2020 Pacific International Cup,鈥 stated Jim Schuman, chair of the PIC Committee. 鈥淭he decision was the most difficult we have had to make in our 21 year history, but the health and well-being of our participants, volunteers, the host club staff and our guests remains the top priority.鈥

The announcement comes on the heels of the 2020 CARHA Hockey World Cup being postponed until 2021 and the cancellation of BC Hockey鈥檚 Midget Girls Provincial Championships and the Richmond Ravens Ice Classic.

On Friday, BC Soccer suspended all-sanctioned activity. This comes with cup playoffs on the horizon at the youth and senior levels while the BC Premier Soccer League was embarking on its regular season.聽

Richmond City Baseball also suspended activities for two weeks.
