Christina Sicoli jumps up from her window seat at to give me a big hug when I arrive (late as usual.) I apologize for the bus that never came and she takes out her iPhone to show me one of those picture-is-worth-a-thousand-words photographs of two women on her bus. We sit down and instantly start sharing stories as if its been way too long since weve last had a chance to chat.
And then, almost at the same moment and almost with the same thought, we pause. Wait a minute, each of our brains is telling us, youve never met this woman before in your life.
That, in a nutshell, is what is like. Shes one of those people who in the course of a one-hour interview which is supposed to be about her acting career has me surreptitiously writing that shed be a terrific best girlfriend in my notebook. As far as first impressions go, she must have a waiting list of best friends.
But before we get to my Five Reasons Why Christina Sicoli Deserves to be a Star, lets talk about that acting and comedy career. She did a lot of work with Second City back in her Toronto days. Here in Vancouver, she co-wrote some of the episodes in the Insayshable web series, in which she played the comic foil to her looking-for-love-in-all-the-wrong-places girlfriend, Saysha (played by her real-life friend and the creator of the show, Amy Matysio.)
Sicoli just wrapped up a role in Afterparty, a film by the new Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»start-up, Sociable Films. It felt like I was hanging out with friends for six weeks, she says. Friends, indeed. One of her fellow actors in the film is David Milchard, with whom she will star in a real-life Big Italian Wedding this May.
She filmed (on an iPhone) a web series called Lucille in Love about a 1920s girl whos trapped in the modern world and looking for love. Last Christmas she appeared as Joey Lawrences sister in Hallmarks Hitched for the Holidays and the fairy godmother in Nickelodeons Ragz.
And, as if the list wasnt long enough At the release party for sci-fi web dramedy (March 12 at the ), shell be performing live as underground cabaret owner Mama Spagootch. Tickets for the cabaret show and series screening are $20 at. Come before 8pm to catch the red carpet (1660 E. Broadway).
