Knitting enthusiasts can join the local fibre community through Vancouver's first knitting events company, the recently launched Knit Social Event Co., at an upcoming Yarn Swap from 10: 30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Aug. 13. The event is at Cambrian Hall (215 East 17th Ave), just east of Main Street. Admission is $4. The swap will support an awareness campaign by Prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome B.C. that helps prevent infant abuse. KnitSocial wants to take community interest and participation in knitting, often a solitary activity, to the next level by connecting knitters through welcoming and interactive social events. Other upcoming events include a two-day knitting retreat in October on the Sunshine Coast, more Yarn Swaps, and the "Knitmobile," which will feature tours of Vancouver's favourite yarn shops.
