Pop quiz: what has been the most revolutionary piece of clothing in the 20th century? Pants. For freedom of mobility, for survival and protection, to demonstrate political and personal statements and in the name of practicality, romance and fashion, women wore pants. Societies frowned upon women wearing them, laws banned them and some religions, too. On International Women's Day, Alexandra Henriques gives an illustrated talk on the history of women and pants at Herstory Café. It's March 8, 7 to 8: 30 p.m. at the SFU Harbour Centre (515 West Hastings). Visit herstorycafe.ca.
