Window on cherry trees

Legacy Sakura windows commemorating the history of the Japanese-Canadian community in and around Oppenheimer Park have been installed in that park's field house.

Legacy Sakura windows commemorating the history of the Japanese-Canadian community in and around Oppenheimer Park have been installed in that park's field house. The windows are a joint project installed through the collaborative efforts of the park board, the Oppenheimer Park Commemorative Task Force and the city. The new windows, which memorialize the park's lost Sakura flowering cherry trees, are engraved with an etching of the blossoms, text that explains the significance of the trees and a haiku, which are all visible on the northeast side of the building. The design was created by John Endo Greenaway and executed through the application of ceramic on glass, which when heated bond together.
