On May 27, the 2nd Annual Parisian Antique Corset Exhibition takes place amid a swirl of old-world glamour. Melanie Talkington, president and designer of , is hosting this French themed fête at Hycroft Mansion as a fundraiser in support of opening the worlds only corset museum, to be located in Vancouver.
A treasure hunting trip to Paris and Venice for Carnival inspired Talkington with the Parisian joie de vivre; her desired to continue the festivities brings a touch of Paris to the event. Enjoy a display of exquisite antique French corsets from the height of fashion; the exhibition will showcase a vast collection of breathtaking Parisian corsets from the 1840s-1920s, with stories of the woman who wore them and the times they lived in. The corset exhibition will also feature local models wearing Melanie Talkingtons contemporary designs based on the historic styles; bringing history to modern life.
Im very excited to share this special program in the elegant grounds of Hycroft mansion, its a shame that my collection is hidden from the public, each event that we do brings my dream of a permanent corset museum closer to reality. Our event gives people an opportunity to see a womans most intimate apparel, the corset, and how it created the form of the fashionable womans figure. says Talkington. Last years exhibition and lecture was a great success, this year I wanted to add an opportunity to tête-à -tête with my guests, we added the VIP luncheon and exclusive fashion show.
The VIP La Belle Epoch Café Luncheon at Hycroft Mansion from 11am 12pm, will include a lunch of savory and sweet delights, an exclusive fashion show and gift bag. General admission to the exhibition will be from 12pm 4pm and includes an elegant afternoon at Hycroft Mansion and gardens, a silent auction of unique treasures and Madame McRaes Boudoir photo booth. Specially selected vendors include Bueno Style Vintage Jewelry, Cocoa Nymph Chocolates, Creampuffs by GG, Sonjas Soaps and Picnik Fashions. Wine by Vino Allegro is available at a cash bar, as well as lemonade and coffee/tea. T Room is catering the VIP Luncheon and vending sweets and savories to all.
Alliance Française has partnered with Talkington to promote the event within the French community of Vancouver.
While we are getting closer to our goal of opening the worlds only corset museum, we are still a long way from breaking ground, says Talkington. As the owner of the largest collection of antique corsets, Talkington would like to share her passion for corsets and her amazing collection with the world. She has loaned her collection to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Museum, and is currently discussing a loan with world renowned, Musee Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
