Vote on the viaducts

Vancouverites can vote online until Nov. 27 on future concepts for the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts.

Vancouverites can vote online until Nov. 27 on future concepts for the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts. Voters can review more than 100 entries that offer creative possibilities for the viaducts and the Eastern Core, an area that stretches from Northeast False Creek to Clark Drive. The city called for ideas and discussion about the future of these lands. The majority of entries came from citizens and design professionals in Metro Vancouver. The competition also drew entries from 13 countries including Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, Poland, Slovenia, South Korea, Turkey, the U.K. and the U.S. Some concepts are practical while others are futuristic. Voters can pick their favourite or rank and comment on any of the entries in each of three categories: Big Picture, Viaducts and Wild Card. A design jury of international and local urban experts will choose their winners for the same three categories for the free and fee competition streams. All winning ideas, including the People's Choice recipients, will appear in post-competition literature that will be made available online and to city council, and all of the winners will have their ideas profiled at a public forum. Winners in all categories will be announced at a ceremony, Dec. 1. For more information, see vancouver.ca/reconnect.
