Union posts reward

The union representing Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»bus drivers is posting a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man who sexually assaulted a woman bus driver while she was on duty in Vancouver. Canadian Auto Workers Local 111 president Don MacLeod says the union is appalled by the assault, which occurred on Jan. 1 at 7 a.m. on the No. 22 Knight Street bus route in East Vancouver. "For confidentiality reasons and because of the police investigation we are not able to give further information at this time but we hope this $2,000 reward and the bus security camera video tape will lead to a quick arrest," MacLeod said. He added that the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department is investigating and has obtained video tapes from a security camera on the bus to help identify the attacker. Women make up about 12 per cent of the 3,600 bus drivers employed by Coast Mountain Bus Company, a subsidiary of TransLink, MacLeod said. The sexual assault comes a month before the Feb. 7 B.C. Provincial Court sentencing of Del Louie, who admitted to viciously assaulting bus driver Charles Dixon at Edmonds Station in Burnaby on Feb. 15, 2011. Dixon has not worked since the February attack, MacLeod said, and has been attacked 14 times in his 25 years as a bus driver.
