Are you a poet and don't even know it? Do you have time to bust a rhyme? Then why not apply to be the city's next poet laureate. The "people's poet" is an honorary three-year position. But, sadly, the job is not all sitting around in a coffee shop, stroking your neck beard-if you have one-and repositioning your beret from time to time. As the laureate, you will act as "a champion of poetry, language and the arts." You will create "an artistic legacy" through public readings and civic interactions. You are also expected to attend a variety of city functions (hanging with the mayor, no doubt), participate in public poetry events and complete one or more special civic projects. You have to be a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»resident and have either an established body of work or been recognized for notable contributions early in your career. Deadline is Aug. 26. See vancouver.ca for more details.
