April 28 has been designated the Day of Mourning for workers who lost their lives to workplace injury or illness, every year since it was recognized by the Canadian Labour Congress in 1984. This year a ceremony is being held April 27 to make it more convenient for workers to participate. The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»event is taking place at Jack Poole Plaza, located at the north end of Thurlow Street beside the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Trade and Convention Centre. WorkSafeBC, the B.C. Federation of Labour and the Business Council of B.C. are co-hosting the event, organized to remember the 142 workers in B.C. who lost their lives to workplace injury and illness in 2011.
