Hillcrest Centre officially opens Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. for a day of activities including a toonie skate, live entertainment, diving demonstrations, free curling, face painting, story time and a puppet show. Hillcrest was converted from the official curling and wheelchair curling competition venue for the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games into a recreation and community centre that now includes the city's newest and largest aquatic centre, NHL-sized ice rink, a library, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Curling Club, fitness centre, gym, dance studio, multi-purpose rooms, a café and offices. The Percy Norman special events room next to the pool will also be unveiled Saturday. The official opening and speeches from politicians take place from 1 to 2 p.m. and the day of celebrations runs to 4: 45 p.m. The centre is located near Nat Bailey Stadium at 4575 Clancy Loranger Way.
