The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada is once again searching for the nation's gutsiest Canadians. Canada has among the highest rates of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in the world with more than 200,000 Canadians having Crohn's and colitis. Seven outstanding Canadians will be honoured during November as CCFC celebrates Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Month 2011. Crohn's and ulcerative colitis are similar but distinct conditions that directly affect the digestive system and cause intestinal tissue to become inflamed, form sores and bleed easily. There is no cure, no known cause and little public understanding of the pain and chronic suffering that inflammatory bowel disease patients cope with daily. You can nominate an individual with IBD who is making a difference in his or her community or someone who deserves recognition for their support of an individual with IBD by completing a form at getgutsymonth.com. Entries will be accepted from Sept. 1 until Oct. 1.
