Giving Tuesday a reminder to give all year long: Part two

There are so many ways to give back to the community this holiday season, we had to include a second list
Chef Bongo
For a limited time, Chef Victor Bongo is selling his African peanut soup to raise funds to help the homeless.

Part two: ‘Tis the season for excess — and too much eating, drinking and spending are right at the top of that list. But the holidays also act as a good reminder that there are people in need right here at home who could use a hand, especially if they have children. (Read part one )

In hopes of offsetting some of the karmic and economic damage created by Black Friday and Cyber Monday, in 2012 the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation launched the Giving Tuesday initiative for Nov. 28. It's morphed into a global movement of helping and volunteering.

African peanut soup sale

is selling his coveted African peanut soup to raise funds as part of a personal campaign to give back to the homeless. For the next two weeks, Bongo will be selling four-litre buckets of his delicious African peanut soup for $50 and using the proceeds to purchase supplies he’ll be distributing with his team Dec. 17, when they’ll be hitting the streets with soup, sandwiches, socks and blankets for the homeless. The soup can last in the fridge for seven days, so it’s great to have around for company. Email [email protected] to place an order and chef suggests the sooner the better.
