The $20-million dollar Polygon Gallery is opening this weekend

1. The Polygon Gallery – Inaugural Weekend

After nearly 30 years of planning, The Polygon Gallery opens this weekend in Lower Lonsdale. The striking, $20-million, 25,000-square-foot facility is the largest photography-focused gallery in Western Canada. A ribbon-cutting will take place on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m., after which you’ll be able to take in the gallery’s first exhibition, N. Vancouver, which features commissioned photos by several artists as well as classic works by the likes of Fred Herzog and Jeff Wall. Family-friendly activities will take place Nov. 18-19, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., while hot and cold treats will be served by Welcome Parlour on Saturday 1-3 p.m.

2. The Rio Grind Film Festival

A long weekend of new cult international films, many of which have yet to make it to Canadian cinemas. Features a total of 10 films and 20 shorts spanning genres including horror, sci-fi, action and fantasy. Includes the social media slasher flickÌýTragedy GirlsÌýby Vancouver-based director Tyler McIntyre, which screens Nov. 17 at 11:15 p.m.

3. The Day Before Christmas

Arts Club presents a seasonal comedy that we can all probably relate to at some point. Jennifer Copping stars as perfectionist Alex, who desperately tries to juggle work and family while trying to hold on to her Christmas traditions.

4. The Fabric of Our Land: Salish Weaving

Presented by the Musqueam, the Museum of Anthropology and a community of Salish weavers, this journey through 200 years of wool weaving features early pieces on loan from museums in Europe and the United States, as well as contemporary works. Learn about how these textiles were created and their spiritual, cultural and economic significance. Until April 15, 2018.

5. Chocolate Lover's Ultimate Cooking Class

Go cocoa loco at this class led by , where you’ll learn how to make chocolate mousse, lava cake, chocolate truffles and chocolate sauce. Savour your lava cake at the end, then take the rest of your treats home, as well as recipes so you can dazzle your sweet-toothed friends and family in future.
