The Goh Ballet's Nutcracker has become a Vancovuer Christmas tradition.

1. Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Now firmly established as a 鶹ýӳChristmas tradition, Goh’s blockbuster Nutcracker returns for a ninth year with a six-day run. This year features Jerome Tisserand and Elizabeth Murphy from the Pacific Northwest Ballet, who will perform alongside more than 200 local and international dancers. Choreography is by Emmy-award winning Anna-Marie Holmes, while Tchaikovsky’s famous Nutcracker Suite will be performed by the 鶹ýӳOpera Orchestra under conductor Leslie Dala.

2. Deathmas Festivus

Even metalheads get merry for Christmas – and behind those belligerent exteriors, they’ve got hearts of gold. Headlined by Terrifier, who will perform festive favourites like ‘Bestial Tyranny’, ‘Sect of the Serpent’ and ‘Skitzoid Embolism,’ Deathmas Festivus will raise funds and gather food donations for the Greater 鶹ýӳFood Bank. Also shredding anthemic carols will be Nylithia, The Mountain Man and Evilosity, among others. $5 entry with aSatanSanta suit!

3. 鶹ýӳFrosted

OK, one more craft fair. Not only can you feel rosy for buying handcrafted goods at Upcycled, you can also outgreen your friends by buying eco-consious handcrafted goods made from reused, recycled or reduced-waste materials. This inaugural market is organized by and,two 鶹ýӳorganizations dedicated to reducing waste, and will feature 16 vendors, as well as ugly sweater yoga, a blanket fort, music and food in a pop-up cafe. It runs at the same time as the nearby Nat Bailey Farmers Market, so you can double up on local and sustainable goods.

4. Christmas with Chor Leoni

Traditional carols, plainsong, seasonal odes and singalongs fill this holiday program from the well loved amateur men’s choir, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Classical works by Veljo Tormis, Frances Farrell, and Randall Thompson rub shoulders with popular cuts by Tori Amos and Ron Sexsmith, and even some doo-wop.

5. Little Dickens: The Daisy Theatre Presents A Christmas Carol

Billed as the “merriest marionette mashup ever,” Little Dickens sees world-renowned puppeteer Ronnie Burkett team up with The Daisy Theatre to present the holiday classic in an adults-only vaudeville-style show. Expect Christmas-themed burlesque and sultry jazz solos.
