In 2011, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Foundation gave out $4.8 million through its Giving in Action Society (GIA) to 137 B.C. families who care for a family member. The money helped pay for 70 renovation projects, including lifts, elevators, ramps, flooring, door widening and bathroom improvements. GIA also helped 83 families purchase wheelchair accessible vehicles. One example of GIAs initiatives was building an independent suite for a 25-year-old man in his family home. That allowed the man, who has severe brain damage, to move out of his care home. The GIA has helped almost 1,000 families since its inception in 2006. The initiative is supported by the B.C. Ministry of Children and Family Development and Community Living B.C. The program is expected to end in 2013. For more information, go to givinginaction.ca.
