AND WORLD PEACE: Nearly 1,000 people filed into the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Convention Centre for the 18th Miss Chinese Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Pageant. Ten young women paraded the stage in cocktail dresses, bathing suits, evening gowns and cheongsams vying for the coveted title and tiara. Twenty-year-old UBC student Gloria Tang, born in Hong Kong, captured the crown. Veronica Shiu and Christina Wang were first and second runner-up respectively. The 18th edition also raised $228,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

NO TINY TIM: The 25th Timmy's Christmas Telethon presented by Shaw celebrated the philanthropic spirit of British Columbians. Hosted by media personalities including Michael Eckford and Fiona Forbes of The Rush, and Sophia Lui of Global BC Morning, the broadcast kicked-off the holiday season by giving thanks to donors and corporate supporters for raising $6.1 million in for BC Lions Society's Easter Seals programs and services for children with special needs.

ENCORE PERFORMANCE: Theatre Cares Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­is a volunteer-based organization that unites the generous spirit of Vancouver's performing arts community with its supporters to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS relief and other worthy causes. Chairs Louis-Marie Bournival and Dean Paul Gibson disbursed $30,000 last week to AIDS Vancouver, Positive Living in BC, the Actors' Fund of Canada and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
