Everyone faces adversity but how they deal with it differs greatly.

Coast Mental Health (CMH) is looking for people who have battled back from severe challenges to be honoured at its 22nd annual Courage to Come Back Awards.

CMH has opened nominations for the honours, which will be handed out in May at a gala dinner in Vancouver. The deadline to nominate someone is Jan. 30, 2020. For more information or to nominate, visit .

Last year's winners include Geri Iininaatoáákii Bemister-Williams, a survivor of sexual abuse and addiction who dedicated her life of recovery to supporting people struggling with trauma, substance-use and criminality, and transforming the systems needed to support their rehabilitation; and Harriet Ronaghan, who at 18 suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident that left her in a coma for three months, and who had to relearn how to blink, swallow, talk, walk and care for herself, later writing a book about her journey and sharing what she learned with others affected by trauma.

Coast Mental Health is a non-profit society started in 1972 in response to a need in the community for services to assist people recovering from a serious mental illness.
