The SPCA is combining three of this city’s favourite things — cupcakes, cuddly animals and the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Canucks — for one big fundraiser.

The BC SPCA is holding its second annual Cupcakes and Cuddles pop-up event Feb. 13 in downtown Vancouver.

Participants will have the chance to cuddle with animals, enjoy a cupcake and get the chance to pose for a photo with Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Canucks forwards Sven Baertschi and Bo Horvat while raising money to support abused and homeless animals in the SPCA’s care.

“We had such a great turnout last year that we knew we wanted to do it again,” said spokesperson, and cupcake crusader, Kristina Matisic. “Some of the animals were adopted soon after, which was wonderful to see.”

The event is set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the lobby of Telus Garden at 510 West Georgia Street. Those interested in a cupcake and a cuddle can sign up online at spca.bc.ca/cuddles in advance to make a $20 donation and book a cuddle time slot.

Horvat and Baertschi will be at the event from 1:15-2 p.m. The players will be available for photos for an additional $20 donation.

This year, National Cupcake Day falls on Feb. 26 but participants are fundraising all month long. Since the campaign’s inception in 2013, $2.45 million has been raised for participating SPCAs and human societies across Canada.

“In addition to supporting this event, we want to encourage people to sign up and to host their own cupcake parties,” Matisic said. “All you have to do is go to . to register. Set up for online bakery, reach out to your family and friends, and accept donations online. Or, donate to someone who’s already involved.”
