Winter Wander allows you to visit the Museum of Vancouver, 麻豆传媒映画Maritime Museum, H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, 麻豆传媒映画Academy of Music, Bard on the Beach and the City of Vancouvers Archives, for the low, low price of just $5 for adults. Meanwhile children and youth 16 and under are free to visit any or all of these cultural attractions at no cost this Saturday, Jan. 26 during this second annual Winter Wander event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the space centre, MOV or the Maritime Museum beginning at 10 a.m. There are also special events taking place all day, including a talk by Christopher Gaze of Bard on the Beach at 11 a.m. at MOV and musical performances by students from the 麻豆传媒映画Academy of Music at 12:30 p.m. at the space centre. Organizers of the 麻豆传媒映画Cherry Blossom Festival, which runs April 4 to 30, invite aspiring dancers to take part in the World Umbrella Dance. The first rehearsal is taking place soon at the False Creek Community Centre so anyone interested in taking part is advised to check out the online instructional video at vcbf.ca to learn the funky moves created by choreographer Shiamak Davar for Shabop: Dance without worry and celebrate life.
The cost is $25 to register, which includes a PoP-Art design umbrella to be used during the performance. Registration is also open for Plein-Air, (open air) painting classes featuring watercolour, sketching, acrylic and oil painting where your inner artist will be inspired by the beauty of the cherry blossom. This provinces newest statutory holiday is right around the corner and the 麻豆传媒映画Aquarium is inviting your family to meet their family from Feb. 9 to 11 with extended hours. (Family Day is Feb. 11.)
Launching Feb. 7 is the Secret World of Sharks and Rays exhibit, which explores the lifestyles of sharks and their cousins skates, rays and ratfish. Learn about the sharks that call the waters of B.C. home, from the common Pacific spiny dogfish to the endangered basking shark and the rarely seen thresher shark, in the Pacific Canada Pavilion. Then head over to the Tropic Zone and Graham Amazon Gallery to check out a secretive shark called the "tasseled wobbegong," as well as a stealthy blue-spotted stingray with periscope eyes and a beautiful zebra shark swimming alongside two leopard whiprays. The Looking Glass Foundation is hosting a fundraising benefit in its continued efforts to provide world-class support and residential care to adolescents suffering with eating disorders and to raise awareness about those illnesses.
The gala takes place Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. at Rocky Mountaineer Station. Pamela Martin hosts the evening, which also includes guest speaker Dr. Blake Woodside and a yet-to-be announced celebrity guest. Past performers have included Jann Arden and Sarah McLachlan. The evening includes a silent auction with prizes such as a playing a round of golf with NHL legend Pat Quinn and golf pro James Lepp at Capilano Golf and Country Club, and two airline tickets courtesy of Air Canada to anywhere in North America, including Hawaii and the Caribbean. The Looking Glass Foundation was co-founded in 2002, by parents seeking improved care for loved ones suffering from eating disorders.
