THIS IS EAST VAN is an ongoing project challenging photographers to submit photos that tell the story of what that community means to them.
The project began two years ago when East Side artists Erin Sinclair and Jason Uglanica put out a call for images of the community, from anyone, in any photographic medium.
Soon candid photos began pouring in highlighting the people, places, food, architecture, design and art of the hood. That project culminated in the first edition of THIS IS EAST VAN and now its time to celebrate the second in the series with a book launch, and first gallery show, July 7 at Interurban Gallery, 1 East Hastings St. at 7 p.m.
The images will be for sale for $160, with $150 going to the photographer and $10 to the gallery. No book launch is complete without a DJ and bar, so bring your cash. For more information visit thisiseastvan.com.

Dance Up A Storm, the 29th annual convention of the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs, is at the Hyatt Regency Hotel this weekend.
This event looks like a lot of fun and the public is invited to two events, including Gay Silverheels, a country and western dance featuring Bev Elliot and Band, Friday June 29 from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., plus the gender-free Contra Dance Saturday, June 30 from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
In Vancouver, gay, lesbian, transgender and straight communities are invited to learn square dance through the social club Squares Across the Boarder. For more information visit squaresacrosstheborder.org.

The E BAZAAR is a one-day event gathers more than 20 Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»artisans and designers, with a promise of food trucks and music. The E BAZAAR takes place at the Biltmore Hotel, 2755 Prince Edward St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tbooth wireless is hosting a free Canada Day block party July 1 in partnership with ViVa Vancouver, the citys new initiative that transforms public spaces into people places.
Tbooth wireless will take over the 700- block of Granville Street between Robson and Georgia, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. when friends, families and pedestrians are invited to this summer celebration featuring live music, mobile gaming stations, a life-sized Words with Friends interactive game and an onsite Instagram photo booth.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Art Gallery is the location for the start of Slutwalk Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»2012, a march to end victim-blaming and slut-shaming. The march started in Toronto a year ago in response to a police officers comment that women can avoid being sexually assaulted by not dressing like sluts.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»held its own rally in May 2011 and that tradition will continue this Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m.
