Mount Pleasant
I predict this upcoming event will sell out faster than you can say sausage party.
Actually, it is a sausage party. The Second Annual Smoking Sausage BBQ Cook Off will be hosted by the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Association in support of the Greater Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Food Bank.
For only $3 per person, while quantities last, participants can sample unique creations hand-crafted from Mount Pleasant restaurants such as the Cascade Room, Hyde Restaurant, Rumpus Room, Rhizome Café and Eight ½ Restaurant Lounge.
All sausages are the creation of Main Streets master sausage maker Drews Driessen of D-Original Sausage Co. in accordance with special recipes supplied by the participating restaurants.
The cook-off takes place Aug. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the alley that runs south to north from East Broadway to East Eighth Avenue, just west of Main Street.
The event was organized by Liveable Laneways, a group inspired by the charm of European pedestrian lanes and alleyways. Its members say our city would be that much more vibrant if our alleys were used for special eventsand not just for dumpster storage.

A staff report going to council this week provides details regarding a proposal to redevelop the citys first auto-oriented shopping mall. If approved, the proposal will see Oakridge transformed into a mini- city complete with green spaces with an emphasis on drawing in shoppers who use transit, walk or cycle.
The proposal also includes residential housing, including some towers.
