Downtown

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Friends For Life Society is holding its 19th annual Art For Life Fine Art Auction to raise funds in support of the complimentary services the group provides for individuals with life-threatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer.

This year, Art For Life is showcasing a collection of 80 pieces of fine artwork donated by some of Vancouvers top galleries and artists, including world-renowned artist Andrew Salgado, whose art from a previous year earned the highest-grossing piece at the auction.

The evening will also feature performances by Vancouvers very own Inner Ring Circus and Mary Zilba from the Real Housewives of Vancouver. (I hope Jody shows up.) Organizers hope to raise more than $150,000 for the society.

The auction takes place at CBC Studio 40, Nov. 17 with a preview from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a gala and auction until 11 p.m. For ticket information, visit artforlife.net.

Before visiting a Disney location for the first time in my life this past May, I had no idea how many childless adults frequent such kid-oriented destinations.

Prior to the trip, I would have promoted this next event for the kids, but I have a feeling some serious pin-collecting couples will be wandering around as well.

Disney on Ices Dare to Dream is described as the princess event of a lifetime, with beauty, spirit and sparkle. Rapunzel, Tiana and Cinderella star in this all-new ice skating production. Fans can relive memorable moments from Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, and Cinderella as a cast of world-class skaters brings the romance of these films to life. Dare to Dream runs Nov. 21 to 25 at the Pacific Coliseum, 2901 East Hastings St. Opening night tickets start at $12. For tickets, visit pne.ca, charge by phone at 604-280-4444 or at the venue box office.

The Museum of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»recently launched a retail line with two goals in mind: to raise funds for its special exhibition and school programs and to allow the world a tiny glimpse into its massive archives, most items which never see the light of day. Some of the items for sale include neon collection magnets, coasters, key chains, Smilin Buddha T-shirts, greeting cards, bus scroll pillows, 1920s travel brochure beach bags, Aristocratic coasters, Cascade beer glasses and Cascade beer T-shirts.

A line of woven rugs is also available for sale, including the Streetcar Scroll, with retails for $1,850, and the Riot Board, modelled after the inspirational messages scrawled on the sheets of plywood used to cover windows downtown smashed during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot, which sells for just under $7,000.

Due to a lack of space, the items are not for sale at the museum but can be found at specialty retailers across the city. For a complete list, visit museumofvancouver.ca.
