I have a strict rule these days about drinking and shopping as demonstrated by that black vinyl coat left hanging unused in my closet. But for those of you who can make appropriate choices with a cocktail in hand, the 18th annual Art for Life Fine Art Auction takes place this Saturday night at the Rocky Mountaineer.
The auction is an evening of art-inspired performances, finger food, sweet treats and libations with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Friends for Life Society. The society offers more than 60 programs and services for people with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
This year's event is dubbed An Auction in three Acts and includes performances by Public Dreams, Drag Queen Joan-E and friends and Juno-award winner Bif Naked.
For those concerned about the ongoing lockout at Rocky Mountaineer, Teamsters 31 has agreed not to picket this event because it's been organized by a non-profit society.
A statement from Sheena Sargeant, executive director of Friends for Life on the Art for Life website reads in part, "We thank Teamsters 31 for their gracious understanding of our situation."
The auction takes place Nov. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Rocky Mountaineer Station, 1755 Cottrell St. For more information visit artforlife.net.
