The organizers of this event are working to give the word craft the respect they say it deserves.
Got Craft?, the citys largest independent craft fair returns for its 12th year at the Croatian Cultural Centre Dec. 8 and 9, and promises to be bigger and better than ever.
This years show also promises to be a foodie paradise, offering everything from gourmet honey and jams to cheese making kits. (I envision the Couriers editorial team making cheese in photographer Dan Toulgoets studio.)
The fair also offers free workshops and an opportunity to meet some of this citys best artists and artisans. The 2012 holiday show features 80 artists who make everything from chocolate to cards to clothes, so shoppers can buy themselves a present or knock everything off their holiday shopping list with one stop.
The first 50 people through the door each day will receive a swag bag with 20 to 25 items such as chocolate, earrings and handmade soap.
But wait, theres more.
A handful of gift cards, valued between $25 and $75, will be randomly dropped into a few lucky bags each day.
The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Croatian Cultural Centre, located at 3250 Commercial Dr. Admission is $3 at the door and children 10 and under are free.

Main Street
The Friends of the SPCA are holding their annual Christmas Craft Sale Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans Club, 3917 Main St.
Shop for hand-made crafts, baked goods, preserves, gifts and Christmas items. All proceeds from this sale are donated to the SPCA Hospital Trust Fund. By the way, the members of the Friends of the SPCA have been donating their time and energy to this event for several
decades.
Kerrisdale
The Pumpkin Quilters are inviting everyone to their fifth annual show and sale of quilts and gift items.
All proceeds go into purchasing supplies so the group can continue to make the quilts it donates each year. The group donates 500 quilts annually to a number of locations and organizations, including Childrens Hospital, the intensive care unit and cancer wards at St. Pauls Hospital, and the Atira Womens Resource Society. Join the quilters for a cup of tea and goodies, while checking out the handmade quilts on display. The show takes place Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2177 West 42nd Ave. Admission and parking are free.
Marpole
Everyone is invited to Marpole Place Neigbourhood Houses Holly Tea and Craft Fair, Saturday, Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Besides crafts, there is also entertainment by local talent. Marpole Place Neighbourhood House is located at 1305 West 70th Ave. at Hudson. Admission is free and lunch can be purchased at a cost between 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, call

Commercial Drive
Get a jump on your holiday shopping this weekend at the 29th annual Britannia Christmas Craft Fair, which takes place in the gym of Britannia secondary this weekend. The craft fair is open Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at 1001 Cottonwood Drive, just off Commercial Drive.
