Calling all members of Golden Key International Honours, a club of which I am not a member.

Golden Key is a collegiate honour society, which recruits via invitation to the top students at universities around the world. The purpose of the society is to create connections between highly motivated students, not only at their home universities but also with other like-minded individuals from a wide range of countries and cultures.

The UBC and SFU chapters are hosting the 2012 Golden Key Canadian Regional Summit in Vancouver, Feb. 3 to 5. The summit is not just for the smarty-pants of the Golden Key, but also any student looking to make connections after graduating. For more information, visit goldenkey.org.

Feb. 4

Why do North American New Year's celebrations only last one night, while Chinese or Lunar New Year parties continue for two weeks? Next year I think I'm going to kick New Year's Eve up a notch.

Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration Feb. 4 with colourful Lion Dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, fan dancing, children's dance, Chinese painting and calligraphy lessons, cultural displays and food for sale. The celebration runs from 9 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Cedar Cottage, 4065 Victoria Dr., at East 52nd Avenue.

Feb. 10 to 11

The City and Slope Festival takes place Feb. 9 to 12 and includes Illuminate Yaletown, a free street party featuring light installations created by local artists, which run from dusk until late, Feb. 10 and 11.

Using advanced video and lighting technology, artists create displays described as "awe-inspiring." Live DJs will rock the streets, so be prepared to get your Yaletown groove on. The City and Slope Festival also includes celebrations and events at our neighbouring ski hills Grouse, Cypress and Seymour. The festival is designed to highlight the fact Vancouverites are lucky enough to have three mountains to choose from that are close enough for a day's skiing or snowboarding before returning for a night of partying in the city. Sorry to gloat, other cities, but Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»pretty much rules when it comes to our sea-to-sky landscape. For a complete schedule, visit cityandslope.com.
