I mentioned VanDusen Botanical Garden's Festival of Lights in my Central Park column Wednesday, but here's an addendum.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Pride Society is hosting the Cozy Up With Pride party in partnership with VanDusen Dec. 15. The press release from the society describes the festival as an "adorable dancing light show-" (The garden is absolutely gorgeous this time of year.) A free WinterPride bus leaves the Fountainhead Pub every hour starting at 4: 15 through 7: 30 p.m. and the event runs until 9 p.m. For more information, visit vancouverpride.ca.
STARTING DEC. 2
I have a feeling your preteen and teenaged daughter or son will decide you rule if you get them into a live taping (Dec. 2, 9 and 16, Jan. 6 and 13) of the locally produced TV show Mr. Young. This Disney comedy is about a child prodigy teaching school at age 14. You can see where this is going. DEC. 4
The Chalice Choir Concert takes place Dec. 4 at the Unitarian Church of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»at 7: 30 p.m.
The choir and the Absinthe Ensemble will present Vivaldi's Magnificat with seasonal favourites and a sing-along. A reception follows the concert. Tickets ($15) are available from any choir member or at the door. Those with little to spare pay what they can afford. The church is located at the corner of West 49th Avenue and Oak Street.

Speaking of Music, nothing says Happy Holidays like songs from the album F__k Death, a new release from Blackout Beach, the side project of Frog Eyes frontman Carey Mercer. (I feel so old.) Blackout Beaches is headlining Megaphone Magazine's third annual Night of Joyful Voices at the Anza Club, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. The event is designed to recognize and celebrate the work Megaphone's vendors do throughout the year.

DEC. 8, 9 AND 10
Friends of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Public Library is hosting its annual Christmas Sidewalk Used Book Sale. Gently used books with Christmas shoppers in mind include gift books, Christmas-themed books as well as fiction and non-fiction-all at great prices. The sale takes place Dec. 8, 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the promenade of the Central Library, 350 W. Georgia. Admission is free. DEC. 8 TO 18
Actors and at least one musician from the Performing Arts Lodge will perform a modern adaptation of the Dylan Thomas classic Christmas poem A Child's Christmas in Wales. DEC. 10 AND 11
The Pacific Baroque Orchestra presents two concerts that invite their audiences to experience Christmas in Italy. The Dec. 10 concert takes place at West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»United Church at 7: 30 p.m. and the Dec. 11 performance is at St. Mark's Church, 1805 Larch St., at 7: 30 p.m. For ticket information go to brownpapertickets.com.

The Kerrisdale Senior Singers invites everyone to their Songs of the Season concert Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. For just $1, participants can help the choir "Deck the Halls" and prepare for the "Holy Night." Everyone is welcome. Tickets are available at the door of the centre, located within the Kerrisdale Community Centre at the corner of West 42nd Avenue and West Boulevard.
