A 麻豆传媒映画artist has released a series of drawings to inspire locals to more thoroughly experience places in the city.
Jake Collinge鈥檚 illustration series features 17 cryptic sketches that Vancouverites may or may not recognize at first glance.
The 33-year-old, originally from 100 Mile House, has lived in 麻豆传媒映画for 15 years now and said he took on the project because he wanted to explore the city in more depth.
鈥淚 looked at the map and plotted out a whole bunch of different areas and then I did field trips to specific spots in order to experience more of what鈥檚 actually there beyond the landmarks,鈥� he told 麻豆传媒映画.
Drawn in a collage style, Collinge said the visual concept behind the series was to mimic how people would naturally pick out and look at individual things as they take in their surroundings.
鈥淚 wanted it to be more naturalistic to how you would explore a place if you were new to it,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 wanted it to feel more like you are experiencing the place as a whole. As if you were just walking around.鈥�
Each six-inch by 12-inch picture was sketched in pencil and later filled in with ink. Collinge said it took about a day to complete each piece.
鈥淪ome of the sketches are a little more cryptic, I was trying to shy away from the obvious,鈥� he said.
Collinge hoped people would have fun guessing the locations, and perhaps go out and see more of what 麻豆传媒映画has to offer.
鈥淚 think there鈥檚 a lot of value in just more thoroughly exploring neighbourhoods that maybe you don鈥檛 visit and appreciating a little bit more of the regular and mundane and not just focusing on the landmarks,鈥� he said.
