Brush step your Shakespeare at summer musical camp

Camp Shakespeare introduces young people to the power of the Bard's imagination

William Shakespeare knew a thing or two about how to keep his audience’s attention. Love, murder, jealousy and humour were always surefire crowd pleasers.

This summer, is using music and dance to introduce young people to the power of the Bard’s imagination.

He’s written a musical about Shakespeare for his annual Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! summer camp.

Registration is still open for the first session from July 4 to 27. It’s for young people between the ages of nine and 19.

“There’s such joy on the stage,” Ehrlich says of why he’s so committed to the annual summer camp for the past 23 years. Some of the graduates have gone on to have careers not only on the stage but on television and film, including soprano Simone Osborne.

But the camp is not just for those who want to be professional performers. “You have to have a passion for singing, dancing and acting but what we’re all about is fostering self-esteem,” he says.

The camp is held at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver. It costs $680 for members and $780 for non-members. More details are available at .
