Following on the heels of Homelessness Action Week and in advance of the Nov. 19 civic election, hundreds will gather at Tenth Church this weekend to discuss what Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»residents can do about people sleeping on our streets and the stratospheric costs of housing for the middle class at a forum entitled Beyond Homelessness: The Church and Affordable Housing. Dr. Brian Walsh, co-author of Beyond Homelessness: Christian Faith in a Culture of Displacement, will deliver keynote addresses exploring questions that include: Is it enough to provide low-and moderate-income people with housing, or do we all need more, a community to belong to and a way to contribute? What are some of the best examples of housing that really work? The responding panel includes Mayor Gregor Robertson, Langley Mayor Peter Fassbender, Dick Vollet from Streetohome Foundation and Craig Crawford from B.C. Housing. The forum will continue the work of the first two conferences held in 2006 and 2008 (for more information on these, see citygate.squarespace.com). The forum runs Oct. 28 from noon to 5 p.m. and Oct. 29, 8: 30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 11 West 10th Ave.
