Gordie Howe is using his Mr. Hockey trademark to promote a cause that hits close to home for the legendary NHL superstar. His wife Colleen, often called Mrs. Hockey, was diagnosed with dementia and died in 2009 of Pick's disease. Nearly 84-his birthday is March 31-Howe is the face of the Scotiabank-sponsored Pro-Am for Alzheimer's, a charitable hockey tournament that puts a retired NHL player on the roster of each competing team. Registration is now open for the Oct. 26 to 28 Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»tournament. Teams must raise a minimum $25,000 and the team with the largest total contribution wins the first over-all selection in a "draft" of participating NHL alumni. Proceeds go to the Gordie and Colleen Howe Fund for Alzheimer's. For more information and to register, visit scotiabankproam.com.
