What鈥檚 wilder than conquering one the most challenging and iconic long-distance trails? Doing it by mountain bike. In Mountain Biking The Annapurna Circuit - Bikepacking the World鈥檚 Biggest Pass, four women tackle the 10-day 230-kilometre journey, crossing over Nepal鈥檚 Thorong La at 17,769 feet. The group鈥檚 film is being screened, along with a presentation by its participants, as part of the 麻豆传媒映画International Mountain Film Festival at 7:30 p.m.
For B.C. Heritage Week, check out The Many Histories of the Site we call Ambleside, in West Vancouver, with presentations given by representatives from the Squamish Nation and the West 麻豆传媒映画Historical Society, followed by a lively discussion taking place at the Ferry Building Gallery Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m. Cost: $10. Another heritage week gem, local filmmaker George Orr will be introducing and screening his , called The Bridge, at West 麻豆传媒映画Memorial Library on Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
As part of Capilano University鈥檚 Global Roots Series, Australian roots-blues-folk hybrid guitar player at 8 p.m. Blending a musical and vocal style that鈥檚 equal parts Ry Cooder, equal parts all his own, it鈥檒l be sure to be a display worth leaving the North Shore for. Tickets: $25-$30
He鈥檚 taken thousands and thousands of photos of ships over the last three decades. Now, Rod Logan has his own exhibition featuring his work, called 10,000 Ships, in Lower Lonsdale until March 31. The display features some 10,000 ships by 鈥渟hip-spotter鈥� Logan, which have entered the Burrard Inlet since the early 1980s. Logan is set to attend a reception for his show at the gallery tomorrow from 1 to 3 p.m. Free admission.
