How do you follow something you can't see?

In the wake of record-setting new daily cases of COVID-19 in B.C., health officials have issued a number of infographics that show how quickly the virus spreads.

Fraser Health has issued three infographics using real data that demonstrate how one positive case of COVID-19 may spread through a community.

Example One

In one example, a woman with COVID-19 attends a single fitness class. As a result, a staggering 67 individuals from two fitness classes test positive for the virus and 180 people have to self-isolate for two weeks.

There are six school exposures and 37 more people test positive for COVID-19 after coming in contact with the original 67.

Seven more people test positive for the virus after attending a games night, while four people test positive at a correctional facility after coming in contact with one of the original 67. From there, 80 workers are required to self-isolate and are unable to go to work.

Last, three people are admitted to hospital.

Upcoming Holidays and Events

In the other two examples, Fraser Health demonstrates how two separate individuals--one who attended a wedding and another who went to work--have a tremendous impact on their communities, with hundreds of people testing positive for the virus and even a fatality.

With a number of holidays coming up, the regional health authority advises locals to stick to their immediate families and to "say no to in-person invites."

British Columbians may see the total number of daily new COVID-19 cases double if people do not change their behaviour.

In today's coronavirus (COVID-19) briefing, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry stated that B.C. is on track to see over 1,000 cases of the virus daily in the next 13 days if locals do not follow the latest health order.

So far, the Fraser Health region continues to see the highest number of new cases daily. And while Henry noted that it is the province's most populous region, she added that the rise in cases warrants concern.

There are now 20,368 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after Henry announced 1,130 new cases in the two-day period that included Remembrance Day.
