Stick in Link: Desjardins returning next year, Vrbata probably isn't

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursday.

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursday. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at [email protected] or tweet us @passittobulis. Or tell us some other way. The point is: we'll probably link it if we know about it.)

  • Willie Desjardins won't be paying for this losing Canucks' season with his job and Thomas Drance thinks that speaks to Canucks' management having the freedom to make their own decisions. "If Linden were looking to assure Canucks fans that this is his show, then guaranteeing that Desjardins will remain in place is a savvy, visible way of breaking with the recent past and accomplishing just that." That strikes me as a specious line of reasoning on Drance's part. But he's right that bringing Desjardins back is a sensible decision. If you're not expected to win, and the Canucks have recently admitted they didn't see it this year, you can't be fired for losing. []
  • Willie on Linden Vey after Monday: “He (Vey) realizes the situation he’s in. He needs to play well. His career is on the line." No pressure, though. []
  • The Canucks made a trade Monday, dealing Dane Fox to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations. Sure, it's not much of a return, but it's more than they got for Radim Vrbata and Dan Hamhuis at the trade deadline, so I'd call this a win for Vancouver. []
  • Wyatt Arndt was on Provies duties Monday. Clearly, Jason Botchford took one look at the schedule and said, "Yikes, you can have that one, Stanch." []
  • More Wyatt, who has some worst-case Auston Matthews scenarios for Canuck fans to consider. []
  • The Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Canucks are gluttons for Hutton. []
  • Brock Boeser leads the way in this countdown of the top 10 Canucks prospects. []
  • Radim Vrbata wanted to score more goals this season. “I wish I could have scored more,” Vrbata said. “I think it’s not just one thing, not just the posts you hit or the chances that I missed on my own. Overall, to score goals in this league, I think you need to have guys around you that have you clicking and are on the same page. There’s not too many guys who can do it on their own. Chemistry on a line — and not just with the line, even with the D-men — is so important now. When you see who’s successful and scoring goals, you can see they have a good line going and they have some chemistry. Then you need a good power play.” []
  • Take this however you want: it looks like Milan Lucic won't be coming to Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»next year. []
  • Although he still could. Here's a look at some of the Canucks' 2016-17 roster options. []
  • Finally, Clay Imoo is back with a new parody song, this time featuring his son Jacob on vocals. []
