It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursdayish. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at [email protected] or tweet us @passittobulis. Or tell us some other way. The point is: we'll probably link it if we know about it.)
- This is the coolest news to come out of Canuckland in quite some time: Brock Boeser was asked to go to prom by the Homecoming Queen, in this case a student from Grand Forks Central with Down syndrome who is a big fan. He said yes. []
- Harrison referenced this article in , but Iain McIntyre did a nice piece on Boeser and his development with North Dakota. Notably, his coach praised him for how he played without his linemates, Drake Caggiula and Nick Schmaltz, when they were injured. That’s good, because Caggiula will be gone next season and Schmaltz might be too. [±ŐĚý
- Ben Hutton is on Team Canada for the World Championship and he’s blogging about it. My favourite part is the dad advice he got from Dan Hamhuis: “He was really excited for me and told me some tips, like what to pack and what not to pack and how much to pack – he told me a lot about packing!” []
- Speaking of the World Championship tournament, we likely won’t see the two Canucks on the same pairing. As of now, Chris Tanev will be playing on Team Canada’s top pairing with Morgan Rielly, while Hutton is on the third pairing with Matt Dumba.

- As spotted by a keen-eyed redditor on r/Canucks, Trevor Linden has been named the 20th best player in WHL history, right behind household name Dale Derkatch. []
- Kris Letang got suspended for one game for a late hit, which is what pretty much everyone predicted. So, uh, how about that 4-game suspension for Aaron Rome back in 2011? Why am I bringing that up? Oh, no reason. []
- How have we gotten this far down the list of links without talking about the draft? Outrageous! Let’s kick things off with a musical number: the latest Canucks parody video from Clay Imoo and friends pays tribute to Prince. Listen to “With Pick Five”, sung to the tune of “When Doves Cry.” []
- Ben Kuzma doesn’t think it’s necessarily as simple as picking the best player available in the first round, not with the Canucks’ needs on defence and not when Pierre-Luc Dubois could be gone by the fifth pick. []
- Speaking of Dubois, he’s ranked fifth overall by International Scouting Services, with Alexander Nylander sneaking in at fourth overall. []
- Here is a comprehensive look at the history of 5th overall picks. Historically there have been some elite players picked fifth overall, including Scott Stevens and Jaromir Jagr. []
- Should the Canucks trade their first round pick? And, if so, what should they be trading for? An impact roster player like, say, a package for P.K. Subban? Or for more picks because of the shallowness of the Canucks prospect pool? []
- Everyone’s talking about the fifth overall pick, but the Canucks do actually have other picks in the upcoming draft. Here are three players the Canucks could target with the 33rd overall pick. []
- When Money Puck and Josh Weissbock got pilfered from Canucks Army, they took their Prospect Cohort Success (PCS) project with them. Thankfully, Jeremy Davis stepped in with his own Prospect Graduation Probabilities System (PGPS) to fill the void. Here’s a primer on the project, which will surely provide some interesting discussion at draft time. []
