Poll: Vancouverites don't have much hope for the Canucks this season

Some think they'll make the playoffs, but many do not.

When it comes to the upcoming Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Canucks season, locals aren't very optimistic about this being the team's year for hockey greatness. Here are the results of our recent poll.

The Canucks pre-season is only one game in, but it didn't go well.

One game isn't enough to predict how an entire season will go, and a pre-season game is an even worse indicator, but it does seem to align with how fans expect Vancouver's NHL team's 2023-24 campaign to go.

While the top pick is that the team will make the playoffs (37 per cent), the majority of voters don't expect a playoff team out of this group of Canucks players and coaches.

A third of the voters don't think there will be any sort of Stanley Cup run, while more than a fifth of voters figure the Canucks will be good ol' fashioned "bad" this year. More than 55 per cent don't think they'll make the playoffs at all.

It seems those from outside of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»have slightly higher hopes for the team compared to locals, but only by a couple of percentage points.

And there are very few people who think they'll do well, with between seven and eight per cent of voters expecting a high finish for the group. Oddly, a few more people think they have a shot at the Presidents' Trophy than think they'll just win their division.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» polled 818  readers and asked the question: How do you think the Canucks will do this season?

The poll ran from 9/10/2023 to 9/22/2023. Of the 818 votes, we can determine that 402 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Presidents' Trophy winner or close 3.98 % local, 4.16 % total
Top of their division 3.23 % local, 3.55 % total
Not amazing, but playoff bound 36.57 % local, 37.65 % total
Just falling short of the playoffs 34.33 % local, 33.13 % total
Bad (aka in the hunt for the #1 draft pick) 21.89 % local, 21.52 % total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 3.42%, 19 times out of 20.
