This grocery store is moving into large vacant space in Coquitlam

Nearly $400,000 is being spent to spruce up the former Save-On-Foods store that will soon house PriceSmart Foods, which is owned by the same company.

, with stores in Richmond and Burnaby, will soon be entering the competitive grocery market in Coquitlam.

Banners have been placed at the former Save-On-Foods location at 2991 Lougheed Hwy. to indicate that PriceSmart Foods will move into the vacant space to provide customers with "new taste traditions."

Renovations totalling $385,000 are currently taking place at the new PriceSmart Foods store, according to City of Coquitlam building permit information.

PriceSmart Foods previously operated in the same Pinetree Village location until it was converted into a Save-On-Foods.

In 2014, parent company Overwaitea Foods began an o convert PriceSmart Foods stores to the Save-On-Foods brand.

Now, it's bringing it back with a distinctly Asian flair.

The change follows the relocation of Save-On-Foods to Sunwood Square where shoppers can buy wine with groceries and try numerous innovations, such as in-store online ordering, a grilling station, a full-service cheese counter, an oyster bar and wine pairing advice, among other things.

Meanwhile, across town, at 1085 Woolridge St., a new T & T Supermarket at the former Home Outfitters in Coquitlam.
