Now extended... Watch for  on Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» every Friday, where from someone else’s workplace pad.
On the verge of opening, I was stationed right smack in the hub of the action. Today I spent #FieldDayFriday with the amidst a whir of activity: a volunteer open house, set productions and the opening of the box office. This is a transformative moment in the Fringe's year, where they shift from planning to execution in anticipation of Tuesday, September 3, the festival's opening night.
Fringe Staffers Caitlin and Warren pose with "Jimmy," Fringe mascot extraordinaire.
Megan sells "sexy buttons by donation" at the box office.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fringe's Granville Island HQ is also on the verge of moving into a bigger space next door. They are currently occupying 3 side-by-side office and production spaces, with 8 Mainstages and many more BYOV's (Bring Your Own Venue) across the island and city. And at this time of the year they can sure use the space, with a surge of 600+ volunteers expected to help to run the shows over the next few weeks. Today, HootSuite provided snacks for everyone during the pre-festival Volunteer Open House, while gave volunteers charity dollars to donate to any charity across Canada.
Even amongst the hustle and bustle, a few of the core Fringe staffers shared the shows they are most excited to see:
: A spoken word piece about an underemployed artist working in a high security prison. David Jordan, Executive Director.
:Â Because "it sounds awesome."Â Gareth Duncan, Director of Development.Â
:Â A film noir fantasy starring "a clown wearing a big lamp out of her trench coat, complete with audience participation."Â Debby Reis, Communications Director.
:Â From the team that brought New Play Prize and Pick Of The Fringe winner Little Orange Man this is "the stand alone sequel about awkward teenagers who hijack a school assembly."Â Shantini Klaassan, Operations Manager.
And of course, no #FieldDayFriday is complete without a #beeroclock. Today's was courtesy of .
And with that, it's show time.... . Break a leg everyone!
