News of the permanent closure of Trump International Hotel and Tower Vancouver has been followed by confirmation that its organizational subsidiary has filed for bankruptcy.
TA Hotel Management Ltd. – the hospitality division of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»developer Holborn Group, which operates the 1161 W Georgia St. property – has raised a white flag.
Documents obtained by Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada show the hotel operator filed for bankruptcy on Thursday.
Records show TA Hotel Management has liabilities amounting to $4.8-million and assets of $1.1 million. The first meeting of creditors is planned for Sept. 16.
The Trump-branded hotel had only been up and running for a few years and had been the site of numerous protests.
It first opened in Feb. 2017 and closed recently, in early April, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Its restaurant, Mott 32, is also closed – but “not due to COVID-19,” a sign on its door reads.
Reservations are no longer being taken at the 147-room hotel.
On Aug. 27, Business In Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»phoned to try to make a reservation in October, and the concierge who answered said his name was Benjamin, and that "the hotel is closed indefinitely but thank you so much for thinking of us."
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has contacted Holborn Group for further comment.
