New sketch of Michael Dunahee released 30 years after he vanished from Victoria playground

Police have also launched a new tip portal.

A new age-enhanced sketch of Michael Dunahee has been released by police on the 30th anniversary of his disappearance.

Michael was four when he went missing from a playground next to the former Blanshard Elementary School on March 24, 1991. His parents were getting equipment together for a touch-football game in the school playing field, and Michael was allowed to go to the playground a few metres from the car and wait for his father.

That’s the last they saw of him. His disappearance led to one of Canada’s largest-ever police investigations.

The new image of Michael was prepared by BC RCMP forensic sketch artist Cpl. Virginia Bernier, who worked extensively with the Dunahee family and investigators. It shows what he might look like at 34.

A new tip portal has also been launched at

“We remain committed to solving Michael’s disappearance,” said Detective Sgt. Michelle Robertson of VicPD’s historical case review section. “Someone out there knows what happened to Michael that day 30 years ago and where Michael is today. We need to hear from that person.”
