B.C.'s top doctor says Halloween treats are still possible amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

After being probed by reporters and school-aged children, Dr. Bonnie Henry said Wednesday: “Absolutely we can still have Halloween.”

“It’s just going to look different like everything is looking different this year,” she said.

Henry is encouraging friends and family who trick-or-treat on Oct. 31 to do so outside, in small groups, by picking up candy from the end of each other's driveways.

“Not having somebody come into your house,” Henry clarified.

The doctor is encouraging pre-packaged treats, set aside at a distance from other candy so that kids "are not rummaging around in things," she said.

Henry believes there are many ways families can still celebrate the holiday – “in fact, I think it’s important to still celebrate during this time."

More Halloween-specific guidelines will be released at a later date, Henry said.
