The Pride crosswalk in front of Spencer Middle School in Langford has been vandalized again — but this time police have videos of the culprits.
The rainbow crosswalk, a project of students in Spencer’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identities Club, was vandalized twice by red paint and tire marks just hours after completion on Feb. 15.
This week, it happened again with vandals striking on Monday and Tuesday nights, using red paint to write profanities.
West Shore RCMP are investigating the incidents as mischief under the Criminal Code.
Cameras have been installed at the crossing on Goldstream Avenue, and both incidents were caught on video. Police are releasing clips of the vandalism in hopes that a member of the public is able to identify the suspects.
The first incident took place on Monday about 2:30 a.m. Video shows a single person spray-painting graffiti on the crosswalk.
The person is described as having a light skin color, and wearing a dark hoodie with the hood on top of a baseball cap, dark pants and hiking boots. The culprit was carrying a beverage can in their left hand and spray paint in the other.
The second incident took place on Tuesday about 11 p.m. Video shows two males taking turns spray-painting graffiti on the crosswalk.
One of the males is described as having light skin with short hair, wearing brown shorts, black T-shirt and a dark baseball cap.
The other is described as having light skin and long shoulder-length hair. He’s wearing a sleeveless tank top with a large circular logo on chest, dark pants and a baseball cap.
The graffiti has since been cleaned up by the City of Langford.
