Health Canada warns that a popular brand of youth jackets has been recalled because they pose a health risk.
A recall notification posted Friday, Oct. 6, states that various Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) Youth Jackets have been pulled from retail stores across Canada due to an entanglement hazard.
The recalled products include MEC's Two Tone Full Zip Jacket (Youths) and Anniversary Polar Fleece Jacket (Youths) with a drawstring and cordlock at the waist. The drawstring poses an "entanglement and vehicular dragging hazard," according to the federal health department.
MEC says that 3,330 of the affected jackets were sold in Canada from July 2021 to August 2023.
As of Sept. 26, there have been no reports of injuries.
What you should do
If you have a recalled jacket(s), immediately stop using it and follow the instructions on the cut off and pull out the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard.
