Timeline of investigation into Indian family who died at border movements in Canada

A year after four Indian nationals were found frozen to death near the Manitoba-U.S. border, police are still trying to trace the family's time in Canada. A year after four Indian nationals were found frozen to death near the Manitoba-U.S. border, police are still trying to trace the family's time in Canada. 

The bodies of Jagdish Patel, 39; his wife Vaishaliben Patel, 37; their 11-year-old daughter, Vihangi; and their three-year-old son, Dharmik, were found on Jan. 19, 2022, near Emerson, Man., just metres from the U.S. border. 

Here is a timeline of what police say are the Patels' known movements in Canada. 

Jan. 12, 2022 - The family arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport at about 2:30 p.m. on a flight that left Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the same day. The family was picked up at the airport by a private vehicle. 

Jan. 13, 2022 - Between their arrival and the 13th, the Patels stayed at a hotel in the Mississauga, Ont., area. They travelled in the Toronto area using both private vehicles and a ride-sharing service. 

Jan. 14-16, 2022 - Between these days, the family moved around the Mississauga area and Welland, Ont. 

Jan. 17, 2022 - RCMP say they have no information on the family's whereabouts. 

Jan. 18, 2022 - The Patels arrived in Emerson sometime in the late evening to begin their attempted crossing. Police do not know how they travelled to the province. 

Jan. 19, 2022- The Patels' bodies were found near the border in the morning.
