HALIFAX — The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads have been sold to American businessman Sam Simon.
The team announced Tuesday that Simon, who owns Atlas Oil and other business holdings, has purchased a controlling interest in the team from former NHL player Bobby Smith.
Smith had been the majority owner since purchasing the shares owned by Moosehead Brewery Ltd. in 2003.
The Mooseheads captured their lone Memorial Cup title in 2013 during Smith's tenure as owner.
Halifax currently sits second in this season's overall QMJHL standings with a 38-8-7 record and has clinched a playoff spot.
