Police rescue adorable ducklings from Metro Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»­storm drain (Photos)

Police work isn’t always what it’s quacked up to be, but Delta officers had a slightly different challenge on their hands when they were called to rescue ducklings that had waddled into some trouble.

Police work isn’t always what it’s quacked up to be, but Delta officers had a slightly different challenge on their hands when they were called to rescue ducklings that had waddled into some trouble.

 When officers arrived on the scene they found six ducklings in two separate storm drains.

A post on the says a concerned citizen called officers on Friday night to report that a number of ducklings were trapped in a storm drain on Highway 17.

Officers had to think outside the box to save the little critters, using two lacrosse sticks to try and remove them from the deep storm drain.

“Four of the ducklings were removed from the drain without issue and placed in a Rubbermaid bin,” the post states.

"The fifth duckling made a break for freedom and jumped from the lacrosse stick. A brief foot pursuit ensued with the rogue duckling; however, K9 and Patrol officers were able to recapture it and reunite it with its siblings."

Police say the sixth duckling dove underwater in the storm drain in an attempt to evade capture.

"Sadly it never resurfaced," the post states. "A thorough rescue attempt was conducted but the duckling was never located and is presumed deceased.”

Police say extensive patrols for the mother duck were unsuccessful.

The five ducklings were taken to the Delta Community Animal Shelter.

It's safe to say, they're lucky ducks.
