Police received a call about a hissing opossum in a shower at a residence in Ladner at around 11:45 p.m. on May 30.
"Given the time of night there aren't a lot of options as to who might be able to come out and deal with that type of situation," says Delta Police public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf.
Leykauf says an officer arrived at the residence with an animal control pole and found the opossum in the shower. "It had its lips drawn back, was foaming a bit at the mouth and was releasing a foul smell -- according to the officer. He managed to successfully pull it from the shower and release it back into the wild."
She says they weren't concerned about rabies since it's apparently extremely rare in opossums.
As to how the opossum got into someone's shower in the first place, well, she says the police can't go into the details,"but we are cautiously optimistic that we won't be getting a similar call."
Police get all types of calls for help, but this was unusual even by our standards. However when it’s nearly midnight, there aren’t many options to remove a possum from your shower. The possum was highly displeased, but we got it safely out, and back to the wild.
