Expo 86 gets one-upped by a gray whale

It's been 24 years but something finally trumped Expo 86 as the most epic thing to ever make it's way into False Creek! If you've been paying attention to any other media today you likely already heard that a lumbering beast made it's way into False Creek, thrilled the crowd at Granville Island then made it's way to Science World where it lurked for about 45 minutes then made it's way out again.

As soon as I heard what was happening I zipped down and posted up under the Cambie Street bridge. There are much video clips out there of the whale taken from one of the many helicopters that were buzzing but we don't have the budget for a helicopter at V.I.A. so here's a clip of Whaley as he made his way under the bridge on his way out. filmed from shore. I shot this after he passed about 20 feet in front of me. It was seriously... just... stunning. I was stunned.

I have a collection of images I shot, which I'll share with you tomorrow. Less of a look at the whale and more of a look at people looking at the whale.
